Routine Dental Procedures And Their Benefits

Routine Dental Procedures

Routine dental care means going to the dentist twice a year for a dental consultation. Many would go twice a year for dental cleanings. These consultations also help to determine the likelihood of other dental concerns. Many would notice common symptoms like a tooth ache or related headaches but when it disappears after a few days, the cause is not checked as the symptom has vanished. These could be the warning signs of other dental issues. When a person goes for a routine check-up then these symptoms can be picked up and checked further and decide if they require more attention or not. Some of the routine procedures that are done in dental clinics are examined.

Braces to correct your teeth

These are prosthetic devices that help to correct, straighten and align the teeth. Overcrowding of teeth, misalignment, crookedness etc. is corrected using braces. Traditionally they are metal brackets that are placed on individual tooth helping push them gently into the desired position. They also help to correct overbite and underbite which are serious concerns. Using braces help to remove the overcrowding of teeth, this can trap food particles between them and attract bacterial action. Tooth decay, halitosis, gum diseases, jaw and neck pain are some of the issues that can be corrected using braces. Boosting a person’s self-confidence and sparkling even teeth are also its benefits.

Teeth whitening for a bright smile

Teeth change their colour due to age, habits like smoking, trauma to the mouth or by consuming food like coffee or tea. The stains on the teeth can be extrinsic or intrinsic. Some stains colour the dental enamel, while some others reach inside the dentine lining through the pores in the enamel and colour the teeth. Even if one views it as a small issue, the effect of a less than perfect sparkling smile usually hampers the self-esteem of many. They are unable to perform well at the job as they are conscious of their discoloured teeth. Teeth whitening is a simple procedure that can be done at the clinic or home. Boosting a person’s confidence while spending a very small amount of money is what this procedure does.

Dental fillings for cavities

Fillings help to restore the decayed teeth. When the teeth get affected due to bacterial action, accident or trauma – it can get damaged. Preserving the structure of the teeth by removing the decayed or damaged portion of the teeth is what dental fillings do. They are fillings of metal like gold, silver or even porcelain fillings that are very similar to natural teeth. If the molars require filling, then usually the long-lasting silver or gold fillings are used. While if it for the more visible teeth, then porcelain fillings that mimic the natural teeth are chosen. This procedure helps the teeth from further damage.

Bonding to correct chipped teeth

Chipped, fractured, damaged teeth are restored to their original colour and shape using this treatment. In this procedure, a tooth-coloured composite resin is applied to the teeth and then cured with ultraviolet light to harden this. If required, the dentist can also shape the teeth. Small unsightly gaps within the teeth, changing the size of the teeth can also be set right using this procedure. The dental health of the person is restored through this aesthetic procedure.

Bridges and crowns

Another method to save damaged teeth and restore oral health is through dental bridges and crowns. Dental crowns are placed on top of the impaired or decayed teeth to protect them from further damage. These crowns are sometimes placed on top of dental implants to replace the missing teeth. Bridges on the other hand are used to replace missing teeth. When teeth are lost, the facial structure and position of other teeth also are changed as there is a gently shifting of teeth from their normal position. Two crowns at the ends placed on the natural teeth and a row of replacement teeth are what the whole structure will be.

Tooth extractions

Tooth are removed for various reasons. Naturally, milk teeth in children are removed to give way to permanent teeth. In some cases, extreme decay is seen in the teeth, this cannot be managed by any other restorative procedure. Teeth which are affected by infections, or damaged by trauma to the mouth or in some cases if they are overcrowding of teeth all this might require teeth extraction. This helps in making sure that the decay does not spread to other neighbouring teeth or gums.

Root canal treatment to save decayed tooth

Saving wisdom teeth and restoring dental health is focused in root canal treatment. In some cases, the tooth gets severely infected. This results in loss of inner dental pulp, where the nerve endings are seen. Through this treatment, the decayed inner pulp is removed, then sealed to break further infection. The tooth structure is preserved and the tooth need not be removed. Spreading of infection is also stopped by this procedure.

Dental veneers for beautiful teeth

Veneers are soft thin porcelain shells that are placed on top of teeth. Dentists then apply a special type of light to the veneers to make them stick to the teeth surface. This helps to improve the teeth – their size, colour and shape. Teeth are discoloured due to age or trauma or prolonged medication. In these situations, placing veneers that are similar in colour to the natural teeth will help protect the teeth. They offer protection and are also stain-resistant and not to forget the confidence it restores.

Dentures to replace teeth

Losing teeth be it one or many is a major concern. Not being able to consume food like before, speech quality being compromised, change in facial features, drooping of cheeks are some of the issues that crop up. Dentures are replacements for the missing teeth and surrounding tissues. There are partial dentures and complete dentures. Partial when there is the loss of only some teeth, complete dentures when the whole set of teeth needs to be replaced. This procedure needs time and is completed in a few consultations with the dentist.
